On Sunday 25th, July about 70 villages gathered at the Marigot Credit Union with their Elected Representative Hon. Edison James to discuss issues of development for Marigot and Marigot’s’ share of the national cake. Discussions focused around what the village can do to help itself develop and the areas where the input of central government was crucial to move the village and constituency forward.
Areas of concern were the School Bus for Secondary School Children, need to revive sporting clubs/groups in the community, Road infrastructure in the village, farm access roads, absence of a community centre, condition of the sporting facility at Lio Park, housing and the condition of the Agricultural Sector.
At the end of the meeting the following decisions were taken:
1. Elected Representative to lead an effort to revive the sports groups in Marigot
2. The Government of Dominica to be written to outlining the concern of the community and seeking an audience with the relevant government entities to seek solutions to the issues of concern.
3. Hon James was mandated to lead an effort to convene a National Forum in Marigot on prospect in the Agricultural Sector.
4. A group consisting of Dwight Scotland, Richard Charles, Jeanne Abraham and Cheryl Abraham volunteered to assist Mr. James in implementing the decisions taken.
Hon. James closed the session with a pledge to work for all his constituents regardless of political affiliation and encouraged those gathered to seek him out whenever necessary to discuss ideas for development of the community or any matter they feel he can help.
