As part of the 4th annual May Fest, the Marigot Development Corporation (MDC) on Sunday May 02, 2010, hosted its customized version of “The Amazing Race”. Dubbed the ”Monster” May Challenge this year, it tested four three-member teams’ physical abilities as they traverse the rugged terrain of Marigot, to overcome obstacles, perform tasks speedily, all in order to seek and solve clues on Marigot heroes.

Four of five registered teams namely Team Wacky Rollers 1, Team Wacky Rollers 2, Team Sunrise Volley Ball Club, and Team SAT TV, competed in the “Monster” May Challenge consisting of river tubing from Hibiscus Valley Inn at Number 6 River to Pagua Bridge, trekking the Monster Route of the tracks and by-ways of Marigot from Pagua Bridge to Lio Park and then to Sand Bay and sea kayaking from Sand Bay to end at the Fisheries Complex. Team Wacky Rollers clean swept 1st and 2nd prizes claiming a pot of cash and gifts worth EC$3,500.

This year’s May Challenge feature sponsor was Monster Energy Drink of distributor Jolly Pharmacy. Significant support was also provided by the EU funded Community Tourism Project, Digicel, Hibiscus Valley Inn and Gregory Robin.
Coordinator of the May Challenge and member of MDC, Cisne Pascal is pleased with the growth realized in 2nd hosting of the endurance race. The main aim of the May Challenge is to introduce outdoor endurance activities as viable and rewarding entertainment for youth and as a community tourism venture. She anticipates that the May Challenge will become a main event of the annual Marigot May Fest and that the event will in the future attract stronger sponsorship from the corporate community and increased participation from youth and sporting groups from across Dominica and the region. She opined that with increased and well directed support the possibilities for the May Challenge are limitless.

For the first time, and through the support provided by the EU funded Community Tourism Project, the MDC was able to complete video documentation of the “Monster” May Challenge. This documentation will form part of the promotion strategy for the event and will significantly enhance the MDC’s efforts to broaden the appeal of the Challenge to a wider cross section of Dominica and Marie Galante in the first instance.

Ms. Pascal extends big thank-you to Mr. Delbert Paris and the members of the North East Youth Council, Mrs. Patricia Linton and the US Peace Corps Volunteers assigned to Marigot, Mr. Marcus Luce and Ms. Rahawna Chapman for the invaluable support provided behind the scenes to make the “Monster” May Challenge a resounding success.
