The Marigot Development Corporation (MDC) awards two scholarships to children of the Marigot and Concord communities, who will be attending the North East Comprehensive School. The main aim of the award is to provide support to children from families in need. To qualify however, the students must show financial need, attain satisfactory scores in the 2008 Grade 6 national assessment examination and demonstrate the desire to succeed.
This year Grade 6 students from the Concord Primary School were included. The school responded by having the entire class apply. The principal, Mrs Alfred, also facilitated our selection process by presenting a concise assessment for each of her nine students.
The recipients of this year’s scholarships are Jovan Dorsette of the Concord Primary School and Wilma Marah Davis of Wills Strathmore Stevens School. The Scholarships valued at EC$650.00 annually will go towards books, transportation and school fees for a period of five years, based on the awardees’ continued satisfactory performance.
Jovan and Wilma are the second pair of students to receive support from the MDC Education Fund. Last year’s awardees were Shane Alexander and Nadeesha Francis. Nadeesha and Shane have been both promoted to second form at NRC School and to maintain their scholarship the students must at least attain a "C" average, have an excellent attendance record and exhibit proper behavior and conduct
