The Marigot Junior School recently opened its newly established computer lab and as such is now adequately equipped to train students in Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The lab was sponsored mainly through contributions from MDC Diaspora members-Mssrs. Peter Alfred and Frazer Jones, with local support from MDC and Country Style Bakery.
The investment of approximately EC$70,000, consists of 15 computers, computer desks, fans, and burglar bars for the room.
At the official opening of the lab the students, who were always curious about the happenings in the grade six classroom, were finally given the opportunity to talk about and see the computers close-up.
Mr. Jones, an expert in electronics and computer science, spoke on the behalf of himself and Mr. Alfred. He explained that working with computers and related technology was not beyond the capabilities of any primary students. He was insistent that with the right guidance, students as young as six can go beyond the boundaries of basic office software.
He was elated to finally be part of an effort which provides access to computer technology for students of his home village. Both Mssrs. Jones and Alfred are also responsible for providing other 20-odd computers for the North East Comprehensive School. They are hopeful that structures can also be established so that the community beyond the school will also benefit from the facility.
At the opening ceremony, current Principal, Ms. Petula Charles, and Immediate Past Principal Ms. Lois Bristol, accepted the computers on behalf of the school and Makeda Victor of Grade 6, extended sincerest thanks, to the generous contributors to the project, on behalf of the school.
